Challenge Batemans Bay – Half Challenge
Challenge Batemans Bay is coming to Corrigans Beach again in 2015 – this event is destined to become the MUST DO long course race.
Start, Transition Area, Finish Shute, and Finish Line
The start will be on the shoreline at Corrigans Beach. The transition area (swim to bike and bike to run), and the finish shute & finish line will be on the Foreshore Reserve at Clyde St, Batemans Bay.
Cut-off times for each leg of the event
The cut-off time from your swim (wave) start time will be:-
- Swim – 1 hour
- Bike – 5 hours 15 mins after swim start
- Run – 8 hours 15 mins after swim start
The swim course will be held off Corrigans Beach. The 1.9km swim will be a deep water start in the normally calm waters, commencing and finishing at Corrigans Beach and athletes will swim one or two laps (depending on conditions on the day) on a rectangular course.
A paddler wearing a reflective safety vest will guide the first swimmer around the course.
The swim exit will be clearly marked for athletes, while officials will ensure spectators and the public remain behind a barricaded passage for athletes to exit from the swim to the bike.
Giant Bike Leg
All athletes will obey the NSW RTA Road Rules and RTA accredited traffic controllers and race officials.
From transition the bike will turn right onto Beach Rd. Cyclists will then turn left onto George Bass Dr, right onto Tallgums Way, left onto Ridge Rd, right onto Dunns Creek Rd, left onto Tomakin Rd, right onto George Bass Rd to a U-turn point approximately 500m from Princes Hwy.
Cyclists complete two loops from this U-turn to a U-turn just south of Annetts Pde. On completion of these two loops cyclists will return towards Corrigan’s Beach, turn left onto Tomakin Road until a U-turn adjacent to Mogo Zoo. Once the U-turn is completed cyclists will turn left onto Dunns Creek Rd and return to transition along the same route as the outward leg. The course will be well marked and marshalled.
The 21.1km run course will be a mostly flat course. The run will commence at Corrigans Reserve, Batehaven and finish at the Foreshore Reserve on Clyde Street, Batemans Bay.
Runners will first head north to Batemans Bay, running along the cycle/footpath and along the Promenade, and then up to and across the Batemans Bay Bridge (footpath), then RIGHT onto Wharf Rd to a turnaround point, and then return along the same route as the outward leg back to transition. They will then repeat this lap. Runners will then head north for the third time, and finish heading north at the Foreshore Reserve, Batemans Bay.
Runners must stay on the marked out course at all times and obey all directions from course marshals. Runners must keep to their RIGHT at all times.
